The Rotorua Museum Te Whare Taonga o Te Arawa collection holds around 55,000 items, and is inspired by the rich heritage and steaming landscape of Rotorua. Currently, 900+ records are online.
We give credit to Frank Peat for the founding museum collection, Ian Rockel for his foresight in connecting with Te Arawa to develop the Taonga Māori collection, Don Stafford for his collection of historical photographs, John F Perry for his art collecting “on the smell of an oily rag”, and acknowledge the many generous donations from our community.
